Why did you buy a puppy just before a family holiday? That's just stupid. Of COURSE you shouldn't take the puppy on holiday before getting him/her settled in at home.

There are a lot of opinions that people are sharing here based on, well nothing actually. What is with everyone assuming that the OP didn't get permission before adopting the puppy? Or that they are irresponsible because their mother took the puppy back rather than giving them time to figure out a way for someone to care for it while they were gone? Who is to say that this family vacation is something that is right around the corner happening in the next few days? Maybe they aren't going for over a week and felt they had time to settle in the puppy and find a sitter. Seriously, all you get from reading this is that the person was not given a chance to find a sitter. That doesn't make them, cruel, irresponsible, stupid, lazy, etc. It is a shitty situation and hopefully it can be resolved. And to everyone asking if they can just pick the puppy up from the pound after their vacation, wtf? A pound is not a pet sitter, find a pet sitter then go and get your puppy back after the appropriate arrangements have been made. The only dumb thing you did was not plan all of this better from the start OP, doesn't make you a horrible person, you just didn't think it through.
