Today, I bought an expensive video game and decided to show it off and post a photo of it on Instagram. When I got home to play it, it rejected my activation key. I then realised it was showing in the Instagram post. FML

You should post a picture of your credit card, I bet you'll have better results.

No other words for it really, You totally Deserve It. Tell you what though i'll buy another copy for you, just need your full name and credit-card number to verify it's really you.

This is why I don't really use that social media crap. Shit like this happens and other negative things to individuals

Definitely your own fault for that. There are examples on the internet to learn from, you decided to add to the already started list lol.

Every such picture I have seen posted on the Internet has had such information obscured. I hope this is a lesson learned.

I believe this is what's known as 'a learning experience'. You'll certainly never do anything that silly again, right?

Interesting, since this is the reason game publishers decided to print activation keys on the INSIDE of game boxes TEN YEARS AGO... How stupid do you have to be to still get that on a picture on Instagram...

Bear in mind I'm 48 and not up to speed on a lot of things, but is it possible to contact game support, get that code deactivated, and a new one issued?

It is quite a hassle though. It was carelessness on OP's part, not the game distributor's fault. Maybe they would comply if OP shares the story. Doesn't hurt to try :D

Usually if you send proof of purchase to the publisher they will cancel the old key and reissue, especially in cases like this.

How sad is it that getting a new video game is something to post about at all?

There are literally no words to describe how stupid you are.

Lotta people on Instagram want free codes for some reason... I get requests all the time when I tag pictures of Blu-Rays with digital HD codes I've picked up. I just delete those comments. But yeah... You're pretty dumb for either posting an open-box picture with the code showing or whatever you did.
