Today, I came home and told my mom that I got the lead in the school musical, which I was very happy about. She pulled me into a hug then said, "But you know you can't really sing, right?" FML

She's just being a bitch. I used to do plays and musicals in high school, and trust me they wouldn't have picked you for the lead if you were terrible.

Just wait till everyone in the crowd is crying because you were such an amazing singer. Then on stage look at your mom and give her the finger. >:)

Do you go to William Hung High School? I guess the world is going to painfully learn what your mom already knows.

You should have replied, "You know you're a ****, right?".

My question is, if you can't really sing....how the frick did you win the lead role in a *musical*...with *singing* in it? I mean really, there had to have been other people auditioning and clearly you were good enough to beat those people out, so how does your mom figure you aren't that good?

I'm thinking it's a giant Punk'd prank. They'll let this no-talent idiot rehearse and on opening night, halfway through the show, Ashton Kutcher will rush on stage and tell her how much she sucks. And everyone will laugh and laugh...

I dunno. I can maybe see it happening due to seniority, only because I've seen it before. At my old HS, one of my good friends got the lead in his senior year play. He was a good actor, but he can't sing. The director saw he worked hard through the years and wanted to reward him by giving him the lead. I got where she was coming from, but I felt bad because I saw jerks openly laughing at him while he was singing. Maybe it's a situation like that. Or maybe OP's mom is just clueless and OP has a great voice. Anyway OP, congrats on the lead. I hope it goes well for you.

So what if you can't sing! Obviously you sing better than the rest of them, and they chose you. It takes more than being able to sing to be a performer! If you got the lead then you have talent! Way to go OP! =)

well the brightside is she told you before the preformance and not yelling shut up while you preformed
