Today, I decided not to wear any makeup. I got told 13 times at work that I looked ill. FML

Don't worry, that's just society's way of saying "My beauty standards are screwed up".

I originally voted FYL but when I reread it I saw "at work." YDI for not dressing professionally. You don't need makeup to look beautiful but you certainly need it to look professional, so you probably looked out of place.

no you don't. I work in a customer facing job and never once have I worn make up to it. I just don't do it unless I am going out and then it is just my eyes. Can't stand the feeling putting suncream on my face so i don't know how I would deal with foundation on for an 8 hr shift. Are you one of those people who thinks women are only professional if they were high heels? All you need to look professional is your uniform or suit if you work in an office, all pressed and clean of course and clean tidy hair.

Absolutely not, I'm not saying you need to be uncomfortable at your job. I'm just saying especially at a customer based job since you want to do all you can to put up a professional front and there ARE people out there who judge people who don't wear makeup why wouldn't you do all you could to look as professional as possible? It's just good business. That being said I pretty much only wear makeup to work or special occasions... I DON'T think a woman NEEDS makeup to look beautiful. Just professional. Some of your clients might have the mentality "well if they can't put themselves together then why should I trust them to take care of me?" You just have to cater to your clients sometimes whether it's stupid or not.

if it was good business then it would be included in the company hand book, I work for a huge multinational compnay, I'm sure they know what is good business. I fail to see why having a little massacara and lippy on makes me look like i can do my job better. Surely the way i handle my job is the proof of how "professional" I am. I get your point about the clients thinking i have not got myself together due to having a clean face but if they think that then that is their own problem. I adhere strictly to my works code of dress and that should be enough. In case my comments come across angry I would like to point out that I am not angry at you specifically I am just angry that such an opinion does exist in an age of supposed equality and you're one of many that holds it.

It's your own fault to hiding behind makeup and not showing your true beauty, if people had seen you without makeup before they would have known it's not their fault

Lol it's ok OP ! That happens to me too.! I have fairly nice skin but I put makeup on to make me look like I have color bc I'm very pale! Nothing to be sad about !!

Screw makeup, there's nothing wrong with the way people look without it. Don't wear it if you don't want to; the world can just get over it.

Almost as bad as faking your orgasms for so long that your honey didn't believe you when you had a real one. Almost.

That's bad. You must wear it heavily.

Been there....killed the confidence! :-/

Do you wear black eyeliner? I always think women look sick when you see one without eyeliner that normally wears it. I think it's the drastic change in color around the eyes. No biggie and nothing to beat yourself up over.

i just have to wear makeup even when with my mom. or she'll scold me for damaging my health by staying up late.

Makeup is intended to make the wearer look fresh-faced and healthy. You must be applying it correctly. It drives me nuts when young women (and some older ones) pile the makeup on! You're not supposed to try giving yourself a whole new face....just accent your best features.
