It's all about quality over quantity, even from a non-drinker you are just stupid for spending 400$, unless this was some kind of wedding or special event YDI.
Did anyone think that maybe it had been a bottle of wine that had been in his family, or whatever, for so long that it was that valuable?
Was it one of those giant 6-liters?
Now how do you have such cheap rent? Damn.
That is why you let the waitress open the bottle at titty bars.
OP: invest in a good electric wine bottle opener! Trust me, it is worth it!! No fiddling with a corkscrew, no pulling or tugging, no risking the bottle slipping. It's great. Hold it on top of the bottle, push the button, boom, done. Mine is rechargeable, has a pretty, blue-lit base when it's charging, and it's not very big. I've never lost an expensive bottle, but opening wine can be a pain. PS: there is a HUGE taste difference between grocery store $10 bottles and nice $200-$400 bottles of wine. Not even close. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with some Barefoot or Yellow Tail if you're on a budget, but it cannot compare to the crisp delicious flavor of an excellent $400 bottle of Polly-Fume or Riesling.
Normally I would say YDI, but those thins are a bitch too open. Just your luck, huh OP? That really sucks.

Well thats one way to get it open.
Why would anyone need to buy a $400 bottle of wine? Being a cheap ass myself I found a delicious tasting one for about $4. And sure, I get paying as much as $80 for wine... but 400? That's just a waste of money. Remember, a higher price doesn't always means better taste.
