Today, I finally released my first music album. I dropped out of college to pay for it after my friends who liked my music urged me to. They keep telling me how much they love the CD. I've only sold one copy. Turns out they put it on a sharing site so only one of them would have to buy it. FML

Well that was a dumb move. Did you really think your friends would buy enough music to cover your income for the rest of your life?

Welcome to the music industry. And if it was acual money you were after then it's stupid for you to think you could make enough to get by when you're an unknown artists with one album.

I agree it's a stupid move to drop out of college for this, it really is, you SHOULD have a back up. It's not a very success FIL industry to get into. They could have done along side college and such. This is not a dead end dream. It's very very hard to achieve, but it's not a dead end dream. They are just the idiot for not keeping up with the back up, and selling their music to friends. send some demos to a few radio and production companies, play live gig's, do merchandise. If your friends wanted to help they would spread the word, not exploit your work by sharing it on free websites knowing you are trying to get somewhere. ALWAYS HAVE A BACK UP. You can't live on this.

Should've stayed in college and worked on music in your spare time.
