How do you not recognize your friend singing?
It was a CD.
Some people sound a lot different when they sing than when they talk. If that's the case with his friend, then it's understandable that he didn't recognize his voice.
Easily. Here's an example - I'm a British teenager, and I work as a singer. People usually think I am American due to the clarity and pronunciation of my words. But if you hear me speak, I have an undeniable accent :P and besides, take into consideration singers like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Adele, Natasha Bedingfield, and Tracey Ullman...barely/not detectable accents when singing, but thick accents when speaking. You'd never guess :P
Agreed. That was pretty obvious.
Agree with #1....he didn't tell you whose band it was before he got your opinion on the subject because he wanted an honest opinion out of you. You gave him one- he should've told you it was his band before asking an opinion if he was just fishing for a compliment.
well, metal does suck, at least you weren't lying.
No, you suck.
Metal doesn't suck
Metal is a very popular form of music that will be around as long as people are able to hear. Your one insignificant opinion doesn't mean shit. And there are millions of people in that don't care about what you say. How about you keep your bias to yourself because no one really cares. Especially on the Internet.

@2 I had a friend that played for a cover band. He could make his voice sound like many different singers because he was talented. Sometimes you never know. I wouldn't have believed it was my friend playing STP or Metallica until I saw him doing it live.

Well he asked, so he got what he wanted.
