Today, I finished a drawing that I spent over 14 hours working on for my mom for Mother's Day. I took it outside to seal it with fixative. I took of the clear lid, shook the can, then sprayed red spray paint all over my art. FML

Always check the label on the can before spraying!

That sucks. Probably the OP didn't check the label because 14 hours of doing anything will make you a little disoriented... Coffee FTW.

Don't worry! That happens to everybody. Here's what you do... If you can still see any of the lines you made under the spray paint, leave it. If you can't, trace over it as best you can. Then, scan the drawing... if you have any sort of photoshop / paint / paintshop application on your computer, it should be fairly easy to edit out the red if the drawing's in black and white. If it's color, just tweak the colors a bit. It won't be quite the same, but I'm sure your mom will understand. If you don't have any way of doing that, then just try your best to work with the original... Maybe the drawing was fated to be a painting. There's still time!

I do believe on the can it says apply in a corner not visible to ensure....or common kpnowledge spray on newspaper to check the color......yeah you deserved that one

anyone who spends that much time on a day that's invented so shops can sale doesn't deserve any better. YDI

EPIC fail. Im an artist too, but after i finish a drawing that took me 5+ hours, im EXTREMELY careful with it, i dont understand how you wouldnt be either...i say FYL &YDI.

Awww!! That reeeeally sucks :(. I hope your mom understands. Sounds like something I would do though. Even the "14 hours" part, I'm a perfectionist and I spend FOREVER on my artwork. That's why I made my mom's card on Photoshop lol :).

Ouch, man! Awhile back, I was making my mom a present on Photoshop, but I hadn't saved it since I got off the sketch layer, and I kept forgetting because it was 3 or 4 in the morning and I was very tired. I was very close to finishing, but I went to bed. Later, I woke up to my computer off, and a note on my keyboard that said, "I told you to do your homework. You're grounded. -? Mom" When I turned on my computer, the picture was gone. Even devastated me, and I sent no more than half the time you took on your picture. -- I'm really sorry that happened, dear.

Buhhh?? You ALWAYS spray away from the picture, on a scrap sheet, first. Not to make sure you have the right can (but that, too, if you did grab the wrong one by accident!) but to clear out any solids and unmixed chemicals that might be in the tube! YDI.
