Today, I finished a drawing that I spent over 14 hours working on for my mom for Mother's Day. I took it outside to seal it with fixative. I took of the clear lid, shook the can, then sprayed red spray paint all over my art. FML

Always check the label on the can before spraying!

That sucks. Probably the OP didn't check the label because 14 hours of doing anything will make you a little disoriented... Coffee FTW.

Oh damn. That sucks. I hope your Mom understands. It's the thought that counts. (:

Yeah, you definitely should have checked. >> That sucks, but you deserved it. I understand you'd probably be tired after working for a long time, but shouldn't you have also tested the can first? YDI.

Aww, I feel you. I've never done exactly that but I have ruined pieces after hours of hard work. But seriously, what kind of fixative do you have? Mine clearly says FIXATIF in huge letters on the front. And even if you're sure it's fixative, you're supposed to spray it away from your work before just in case something is wrong with it. Also, I would never keep my fixative next to my spray paint, haha. I'm sorry, though. Hope there's something you can do to fix it or have another idea for Mother's Day. #50, lots of artists spend manyy hours on their work. I've spent about fourteen hours on one before and I know of some others that have spent more than thirty. Obviously, the OP wanted to make their piece perfect for their mother so they put that time and effort into it.

next time read the bottle. Guess u have to re do it for tomorrow huh? lol

thanks for the good idea. I'll give my mom a canvas spraypainted red and tell her your story like it was my own. Now I don't need to buy her anything.

14 hours of drawing (I doubt continuously) and not spend a few extra seconds checking the label before fixing it? YDI

As an artist myself, I know that hurts. You could tell your mom what happened and she would still love you for trying.
