Okay my husband told me about this one so I had to drop everything and comment. One summer morning I went out for a run and saw a black cat partially in the road. I started crying and ran back to the house and told my husband that Chip was dead and he needed to come help me. In the meantime morning traffic was starting, so I picked him up and a FLEETING thought went through my mind, "I don't remember him being so heavy." I walk into the front yard and my husband came out with a bag and a blanket. I'm crying and we lay him down and we're petting him and both very sad. Finally I pick him back up again and we head to the backyard to bury him. I'm standing there, still blubbering and my husband is digging and suddenly he stops and says, "Wait a minute." "What?" *sniff* *sob* "Chip is right there." There he was sitting on the other side of the fence like, "Whatcha doin? Whose that dude?" Then it dawns on me that I am holding a strange dead cat and I start yelling "GE
Bah! Then it dawns on me that I am holding a strange dead cat and I start yelling "GET IT OFF ME!!! I'M HOLDING A STRANGE DEAD CAT!!!" So then, what to do with the cat. Roy says, "Well maybe you should put him back?" Oh yeah then what? The neighbors think I'm some sort of nut job who puts random dead cats in the road? We didn't want to bury him because we already have a few too many animals in the backyard (someday it'll be an archeological site). So we finally decide to put him in the trash, which was coming that day. I had to call my mom and tell her because by now it was kind of funny and she's telling my dad and I hear him say "Why didn't she just put him back into the road?" REALLY?! We did watch for lost cat signs and ads in the paper, and decided that we did save someone else from finding their own cat on the side of the road. There is one other cat on our street (black cat) and it wasn't him so we have no idea where it came from. I guess what my mom always said is true, all black cats look the same in the dark...and on the side of the road.
That is horrible. You are a horrible person. If anyone ever put my dead cat in the trash and I found out I would hate them forever.
What a relief! Keep your cat inside & it won't be killed.
How is this an FML? You're cat is still alive! As someone who has had multiple cats killed by vehicles, I'm jealous of you :( the ones I found on the road were always mine.
Next time chip your cat
It's a ghost...
Yea... been there before. Think of it this, you did a good deed!

What a catastrophe.
At least you still have your own cat, and didn't leave that one rotting in the sun.
