needagoodlaugh tells us more.
The car has a computer system that tells you the problem. It needed an oil change and it keeps beeping until you do it. Considering it just came on yesterday it was safe to drive home without getting it changed.

You should have known your car needed an oil change before traveling. Not doing so could leave you car less. YDI so much.
I owned a shop for two years. Wanna know how many cars I had in there that were screwed because of lack of an oil change but had enough oil? Zero.
I work in a huge shop have been for years I am a certified master tech and hold at least one certification from every major automaker and can tell you that is complete crap and you really shouldn't talk people out of maintaining their cars while driving 200 miles past the oil change will not instantly cause damage it will over time and will cause problems along the way skipping out on fresh oil leads to leaks, bad bearings, noisy lifters, scarred camshafts, and many other engine problems in fact most problems I fix originate from improper maintenance
#78 and #96: my father and I actually own a shop too. We've been running it for about 12 years or so now. Yes, I do know what I'm talking about. Read one of my replies above in another comment.
Ermm.... ....Your car has no radio?
Most vehicles want you to change the oil at least 4 times a year to be safe, but if you drive less and don't really care you can get away with 2...although you must really need a change if the alarm goes off, I've only heard of the alarm going for low oil.
Actually you should change it every 3,000 miles. Time of year has no effect
I have my oil changed once a year. I only drive in locally in my small town. I use our other for out of town trips. I don't even clock 5,000 annually, usually. I use full synthetic that has a life of 5,500. It gets checked every three months, of course, but doesn't need changed. My husband's a mechanic, he says there is no need to change it more. It doesn't get driven enough.
Your own fault for not taking better care of your car
I can already see the FML for the guy who changed the oil after you driving 200 miles lol. I hope you told the guy you been driving that long so he could let it cool down. FYL though.
Coolant and oil are two different things. Oil doesn't necessarily make the engine overheat. Low to no coolant will make the engine overheat. I speak from experience.
He means because that oil is gonna be hot as shit and burn him when he opens the oil pan and takes the filter off. I speak from experience.
You're damn lucky your engine didn't cease up. It's not that hard to stop at a gas station and put some more oil in your car until you can get it changed
it had plenty of oil, it just needed a change. two different things completely.
OP, even bad oil can blow up your engine at a certain point.
Yes, but not 200 miles over the warning signal. And that signal is based on the car, not the oil used, some synthetics have much higher milage.
I know a guy who hasnt changed his oil the whole time hes had his car, over 50000k. but I feel like hes just got one of those cars that will just never die though, but as long as you keep it semi regular you shouldnt have to worry.
I don't believe this one bit as that is literally impossible. Bad oil can lead to very bad problems. Adding oil doesn't do much except keep the oil level where it's supposed to be.
This is one example of what god would make hell like if god existed at all. Another example is waiting for papers from the USCIS!
That's interesting. Hopefully your engine is ok.

200 miles without checking the source of the noise, or resolving the problem? You didn't pull over? You probably don't pull out either. Since you don't listen the warning signs parenthood is sneaking up on you faster than you expect.
You couldn't change it anywhere along those 200 miles?
