Today, I found out my identity was stolen. The person got credit cards in my name and didn't pay the bills, which has ruined my near perfect credit. The worst part about all of this is that I can't turn the person in. It's my mom, and sending her to jail wouldn't really work out for anyone. FML

thats probably why she does what she does. If we didnt have consequences for breaking the law do you really think people would follow them as much as we do now?

I don't care if it was my own mom or my kids, I would so turn that person in and get my credit rating back. THEFT IS THEFT. By not turning your mom in, you are enabling her to continue

I'm not sure how one could ship someone an entire jail, but I give you a win for a good laugh.

she obviously didn't care that you are her child when she was stealing off you....so you shouldn't give a shit that she is your mum when you turn the bitch in! which you should most definitely do!!!!

Turn her in. You can't let people get away with crap like that.

Actually, I think it might work out for everyone. Including you, but especially whoever might be next on her robbery scandal list.

How, what? It's fraud. She can't trust her mother and knowing it was her who stole her identity, makes OP susceptible to getting in trouble right along with her for not turning her in. It also prevents OP's mother from being able to do the same thing to someone else, if she's locked up. It might not be the ideal situation, but it definitely would work out better than any other option OP has.

dear sociologists: of course it's okay to make up fake fmls just to see how the public react on moral issues. just keep in mind that, if you make them too obvious, you will get mostly fake reactions as well. you'd better not rely on them.

turn her in. she's a horrible person and even a worse mother. she shouldn't be aloud to live in society

Stealing identity is NEVER ok! No matter who stole your identity, it is still a crime. You need to realize that you should never trust you mother with your finances or personally identifiable information again. You also have to make the difficult decision to turn your mom in to the police. This is a no win situation but to do nothing will be far worse than to fight it. She made the decision be a criminal and a terrible mother to you, you need to stand up for yourself. Good luck OP.

So turning your mom in and having your identity back doesn't work out for you? I don't see how that's possible...

Maybe he lives with her? Or she's got something else over him.

Maybe OP has younger siblings who would end up in foster care with the mum in jail. I still think she deserves to be turned in though. What a bitch.

@ 82 If the OP does have younger siblings then it should be even more of a reason to turn in their mother. Children shouldn't be living in an environment such as that. Ovbiously the lady isn't fit to be a mother. Imagine what else could happen. I'm sure there are other family members who would be willing to take in the children in a situation such as this, and if not then maybe foster care is what's best for the children.

Uhm, if your mom steals your identity and ruins your perfect credit - you should be willing to turn her in. What sort of mother does that? She deserves going to jail.
