if the amount is not that much you can forgive her:)
Dude, turn your mother in. You do no one any favors by keeping your mouth shut and your credit can be restored. Believe me, if she would steal your identity and ruin your credit, you can bet that if the shoe was on the other foot she'd turn you in to the authorities to "teach you a lesson".
Ouch.
There is no reason to not turn her in. Letting her get away with it makes her think she can get away with it again, and give her license to steal another family member's identity. THAT is what would not work out for anyone. And, if she's a single parent with kids at home...well, single moms still have to obey the damn law and not screw over their adult children. Make her responsible for her actions. Just think: do you want to be responsible for her doing this to one of your siblings, if you have any?
The next step is that these companies will sue you for repayment. Your paychecks could be garnished. Additionally, of course, you will suffer for the 7-10 years that these bad debts remain on your credit history report as you'll either not qualify for loans when needed (such as a mortgage or car) or will receive sub-standard loan terms. If you don't file a police report, the credit card companies and future lenders will have no reason to believe that it wasn't you that racked up the bills and shrugged off the repayment. If you speak with the city ADA and explain the situation (that younger sibs are dependent on Mom not being thrown in jail for theft), it's possible that your Mom will simply receive orders to repay the debts and probation.
Turn her in. Stealing somebody's identity is a serious crime, as you found out, and being your mother doesn't make her any less responsible. If you REALLY don't want to have the police involved, have you tried contacting the bank and telling them the situation? With some luck, you might resolve the situation without involving the police.

Come on. Grow a pair and turn her in.
thats probably why she does what she does. If we didnt have consequences for breaking the law do you really think people would follow them as much as we do now?
