Today, I found out that my boyfriend asked me to marry him because he could get a tax cut from buying the ring. All of this happened in front of his mother. FML

He should be marrying you because he loves you, not because of a tax cut. Dump his cheap ass.

There is no "tax break" for buying a ring. Your boyfriend is apparently very gullible. His trip to the jewelry store: BF: "I'm looking for a modestly priced engagement ring." Salesperson: "Well, today is your lucky day! Just this weekend we have a special deal, and it's part of the government's stimulus plan. If you buy this $20,000 ring, you can get a tax credit of $25,000. In essence, you get the ring for free AND get money back!" BF: "That doesn't sound right... how does this work?" Salesperson: "The government is trying to stimulate the economy, and the best way to do that is to encourage the purchase of very expensive items. But it's only for this weekend, so you have to act now!" BF: "Sounds good. I'll take it!" This is not an FML for you. It will become an FML if you still decide to marry him, knowing that he is a moron who thinks he can get a "tax break" for buying jewelry.

ya, good spelling Mr. moderator. 2th!!!!!!!!!!

What happened in front of his mother? The proposal or you finding out about the tax break. What difference does his mother being there make? You didn't say "only asked me..." so I'm not sure this is an FML. If he loves you, you love him, and you want to marry each other, why should it matter if it was a tax break, tarot card, fortune cookie, or talking parrot that gave him the final push? You're getting a man who is practical and loving enough to buy you a ring that is tax break worthy.

If he gets a tax cut from buying the ring, who pays for the ring? Can hardly believe that the tax cut is bigger than what the ring costs...

Some people just look for things to bitch about. So what if he's practical and is trying to save both of you some money? Go find something worth being upset about. You sound annoying and lucky anyone can put up with your crying enough to marry you.

lol sounds like something the far right would do to salvage "morality" and "marriage" in the US.

I'm not sure whether to say FYL or YDI, because your life is not ****** in any way, and you do not deserve to have someone like that who cares about his finances if you are just going to bitch about it.

Fark website is awesome. If you post "1st" or "first", it automatically moves it to a random spot in the middle of the page and changes it to say "boobies" so you just look like a moron. I'm not joking, it's awesome.

I would keep doing that just because that's silly

This guy is a moron because his tax break would only be a portion (i.e. 35%) of what he paid for the ring. So if he paid $100,000 for the ring, he'd only save $35,000. So he'd still be spending way more money than he "saved." And I've also never heard of a deduction for buying a wedding ring, though there are many other tax benefits to getting married.
