Today, I gave a carpet shampooing demonstration in a stranger's home. To my surprise, the white expensive carpet was dyed grey due to something in the solution. The owner held me hostage in her house by barracading the door until my manager got there. FML

Well, if it was THAT expensive, they shouldn't have taken the chance. I said it's their fault.

Good for her! Why were you trying to leave when you'd wrecked her carpet? I'm quite sure she'd have imagined if she let you leave she'd never hear from you, your manager, or the company again - and I bet she'd have been right. If not, you'd have hung around more than willingly. God forbid someone doesn't want to have to stump up thousands for someone else's mistake. I know your type.

OP didn't say they enjoyed their job. many people do what they have to to put food on the table. and when you work door to door you read the script, hope the customer says no to the scam and look for a better job. you know the "type"? as in, not lucky enough to stumble into a good job? OP did not say they tried to leave only that they got barricaded in. be less judgy of the worker, maybe more annoyed at the scam? and yes, before you come after me for not having a real job, I work 50s in a skilled trade. and i have done door to door in the past. it sucked

I love Wbrycem's use of the not equal sign! Awesome, you have a brain :)

a.) why did you do that without seeing what would happen before you tried to sell it?!? b.) yes what she did was illegal. but it was your fault. yes you could take her to court, but she could take you too. and she'd get more. she'd a slap on the wrist, because the average person hates people like you. and then, since i assume that you told her this demonstration wouldn't harm her carpet and that it would clean it, you'd be held liable for the damage you cause.

i've heard that so many times that i'm sick and tired of it...god that 'joke' is years old...
