Today, I got 20% tints on my car. As I'm driving home, a cop pulls me over. I didn't want to ruin my new tint by opening my window, so I opened my door as the cop approached. He then pulled out his gun and yelled "GET ON THE FUCKING GROUND!" before I could explain. FML

You aren't supposed to open the door when a cop is approaching. Duh.

better question: why did you get pulled over?

Cops talk like that even when they are off duty.

this happened to my bro after i had bought him the tint as a HS grad present...he got pulled over for speeding and then got a double ticket and had to pay to get the tint removed!

BAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope the tints were worth it

ok, i commented once. not sure what happened. FYL. i drive a '98 cavalier, and one of the more noticeable "quirks" is that the front two window motors are broken. i've had them mechanically sealed, so they won't come down while i'm driving. so whenever people honk and yell out the window at a red light, i have to open my door to answer. every time i get food from a drive thru, boom, i open my door. when i get pulled over is no different. it's better than sitting there unable to talk to the cop like a rude asshole. if he freaks out, oh well, i didn't do anything wrong. i'm completely on your side UNLESS you started to get out of the car.

#44 - exactly. The cop didn't know who you were, I'm sure most of the time when someone opens a door they're getting ready to run or do something stupid. Better safe then sorry on his end. Hopefully you didn't get out of the car, otherwise you're just an idiot and YDI. Next time I'd just stay in your car, wait til he got to your window, then motion that you can't open your window, and slowly open your door. Oh and PS tints are stupid. (assuming you got them just to look cool)

It'd be an even bigger FML if you were getting pulled over for tints that were too dark. Tints aren't stupid. They keep the sun out.

Most of you are ******* stupid and obviously know nothing when it comes to window tinting and the law. The OP never told us what state it is then so there is no way to say if it is illegal or not. Tint laws all vary by state. Some you can go very dark on the front, some allow none at all, and some are in the middle. In regards to rolling them down right away after tint, any good, reputable shop or installer will have you wait at least 24 hours, maybe more depending on the weather (The warmer and sunnier it is, the faster the tint dries). Even if it is put on with no bubbles and shit, it still takes a while to setup and completely dry. If it is not dry, the film can move and shift on the glass when it comes in contact with the window sill. Power hungry cops? WTF are you high or something? The OP opened his door, which you are NOT supposed to do unless the cop asks you to step out, so the cop took it as a threat and pulled his gun. LIKE HE WAS TRAINED TO DO. The cop was well within his right, and I don't blame him. Its not uncommon for someone to get out and try to attack a cop. And who the **** are you to say that tint is unnecessary, looks stupid, etc? That's a personal opinion, not fact so STFU. Besides, some people have their windows tinted for medical/optical reasons. It really helps if your eyes are very sensitive to light. Seriously people, get a ******* clue before you go running your damn mouth. As for the OP - you definitely deserved that one. You should have kept both hands on the wheel and waited until he was at your window to give you directions. Then you could have informed him that your window can't go down and he could have asked you to step out. That way it is not taken as a threat to him.

He did the right thing, the cop did the right thing. It still wasn't a favorable outcome. You're not supposed to touch or use your windows after getting tint, sure people do it and it turns out fine, but you really shouldn't.
