Today, I got a letter back from the family I will be staying with as a part of an exchange program. Apparently they own a slaughterhouse type farm, and I'm expected to kill one of their animals and eat it as a gift from the family. I'm a vegan. FML

if you're gonna live in another culture you can't be strict about being a vegan. it's not a religion.

This should have been addressed when you were getting a family. It's equivalent to special needs. If anything just tell them it's against your beliefs since it is.

so tell them. it's not like they can make you kill it or eat it. and I find it odd you would have been paired with this family since you're vegan. sounds a bit fishy
