Today, I got an email from my cousin to "save the date" for her baby shower. It's on my 21st birthday. This is the same cousin who got engaged on my 18th. FML

know just how u feel sent out all the imitations for my husbands fortieth only to have his cousin send her wedding invitations out for the same day 2 weeks later

Did they not send out "save the date" notes beforehand?

right, because they didn't have the wedding date, venue, band, whoever scheduled before you sent out birthday party invitations... As for OP, don't people go out at night on their 21st birthday? I don't see how a baby shower interferes... way to be selfish. They probably picked the most convenient day for whoever was planning it (likely not the expectant mother). That's what I did while planning my friend's baby shower.

that's not cool. I'm sorry.

this makes zero sense now why is 21 special if you can drink at 18 I know in Canada the legal age is also 18 (except in BC) and if drinking age is 18 in the UK then idk what is so special about 21

when a guy is talking dirty to a girl it's sexual harrassment but when a girl is talking dirty to a guy it's $3.50 a minute!

Your birthday in itself doesn't need to hog the whole day. Many people take school tests, work, or are forced to do ungodly tasks like scrubbing chimpanzees' butts on their birthdays. As long as you have a separate day for a celebration it doesn't really matter. Besides, your cousin is having good things happen to her, don't you want to support her? If not you're a selfish little OP. :3

Puggfuggly, I don't know why 21 is particularly special, my cousin had his recently and apparently the only legal thing he got was that he was now legally allowed to adopt. I guess it's just a good number. For some people that will be their last year at uni, for people doing a three year course and no postgrad stuff... So it's pretty much just an excuse from what I can see. And thanks, Raleigh. My comments do tend to be. :P

so? what a better way to spend your birthday than with your family who loves you celebrating two special events. your family is not going to favor one or another, that is of course you don't have a self concious and rude family. If you are so selfish to want the spotlight on you and only you and so sensitive to your cousin for it then YDI. if it really bothers you that much, ask her to have a joint party. save some goddam money in this economy. seriously stop being a self centered bitch
