Today, I got an email from my cousin to "save the date" for her baby shower. It's on my 21st birthday. This is the same cousin who got engaged on my 18th. FML

My dad's cousin got married on my 17th birthday. She promised me a cake just for me. But she didn't have one. She also planned an outdoor wedding in October. Guess what? It was cold an rainy. I was thrilled. =) In my situation, I was very unhappy because she's not a distant relative. She's practically like a sister to my dad. She lived with him for three years even! What bothered me the most was that she KNEW it was my birthday, promised to have me a cake, and then didn't remember at all. I can't be sure now because it was so long ago, but I don't think she even said Happy birthday to me. She certainly didn't even get me a card.

Well see, there's the difference. She made you certain promises and then broke those promises. The way this FML reads, though, it seems like the OP is mad simply because this was somehow "her day" and no one else's.

oh boo hoo OP at least your birthday isn't 4 days before xmas like mine and pushed to the side EVERY year for office parties and other nights out. I've had a bday party in November before just so I could get somewhere booked lol. On the other hand at least the general public are in a good mood around about xmas. Your cousin probably didn't do it on purpose. Its probably the perfect time for her to receive gifts for the baby, not to close to the birth but not too far away that things will be cluttering her house for months. A 21st birthday is big deal in Britain but I honestly don't know why, something to do with keys to the house or something.

I don't get the engaged thing. Maybe it'd be mean of her if she got married on that day, and KNEW it was your birthday. But I doubt her (or her boyfriend, whichever proposed) thought 'hmm, when does my cousin have her birthday? I'm going to propose then...'
