That's not really a bad thing. He can use it for other things, or just put it on display in his home. It wasn't intentional anyway and who were you to know?
My great-grandfather was an alcoholic so my grandparents don't really drink or keep alcohol around the house. They do have quite a few shot glasses which we use to hold toothpicks at parties. They actually work really well for that!
so? a shotglass isn't going to make him go drink again
Aww, well you didn't know he was recovering, I'm sure he understood. And it's not like getting a shot glass as a souvenir from someone's trip - when he explicitly asked for a souvenir - is going to make him go back to drinking.
I have over 30 shot glasses and have only used like 5 of them for actual shot taking. They are a great collectible.
FYL I've almost done this before except with a bottle of whiskey... maybe he can still use it for shots of... milk?
you came back from vacation and your boss asked you to get him something? he didn't specify what it was that he wanted or just felt that he needed a gift?

There's probably no way you could've known that, so I think he'll appreciate the gesture :)
he doesnt have to use it for drinking, he could use it for like a decoration
