Maybe they didn't want you to work there with them ...
I can't imagine ever wearing jeans to an interview. Even retail and fast food places expect you to wear slacks or a skirt.
good work now to prank your friend.
Your "friend" seems more like a frenemy.
You'd think they'd tell OP what type of clothes they wear at the job if they say dress for the job.
Are you sure your friend meant casual? They could have meant 'dress casual', which usually involves a button-up shirt and a maybe a blazer for men, and some form of dress, blouse-skirt-combo, or nicer pants-blouse-combo for women. Jeans are unacceptable for anything beyond a relaxed dress code.
Always dress your best for any interview. Even if the job is uber casual.
That sucks that your friend told you it was "casual" but at the same time, YDI for wearing jeans. It's way better to show up overdressed for an interview than underdressed - even when I had an interview at a convenience shop/gas station I wore nice pants and a button up shirt. NEVER wear jeans to an interview.
I'm glad you got the job! Congrats OP. :)

Even if the office has a casual dress policy, you should have worn a business suit for your interview.
Casually kick your friend's ass
