When I broke my chin open chasing my cat downstairs, my mom introduced me to the ER doctor as "my idiot son." I was 5 or 6. It doesn't mean my mom is a bad mother or she doesn't care; it's just an expression to let off steam about her kid doing something stupid so that she doesn't take out her frustration ON her kid.
