Today, I had to dig up my twin boys birth certificates for baseball registration. Turns out I had been calling both of them by the other twin's name for eight and a half years. FML

how would finding their birth certificates help distinguish their names?

what parent doesn't know what their childrens names are?

How do the birth certificates determine which twin has which name? Every birth certificate I've ever seen just lists the baby's name, DOB, place of birth, parents' names, DOB, jobs, address etc... no identifying characteristics of the baby to describe actually which person the birth certificate applies to.

if the birth certificates made that much of a difference why didn't they make a difference when you had to use them to enroll the twins in school?

Plenty of people don't go by their birth name. If it's really a big deal it isn't hard to change their names. Also, I'm willing to bet that she stumbled on some other papers that made her realize her mistake while looking for the certificates.
