Today, I had to go back to the restaurant I had just eaten at and beg for my tip back so I could afford my bus home. FML

Hi, as the author I just wanted to clear this up. I'm not cold or heartless, but I forgot my Oyster card (what you need to get a bus home in England) and had given my last bit of change for the tip! I was hugely embarrassed as I always tip (although not mandatory in Britain as in America; mostly because American staff are for more helpful and nice). However, as I do go there fairly often, I will obviously tip more next time!

If you lived in the US they would laugh in your face dude. At least tipping isn't really mandatory there, and forgetting your bus card is understandable.

damn haha but that's okay, part of life :)

go eat at bk or McDonald's... so u don't have to tip next time.,

It's not mandatory to tip in the UK unless you have a party over 10 and even then it's sometimes discretional.

Isn't tipping ALWAYS discretionary? A mandatory tip would just be part of the price.

I would rather walk home than begging for tip money back. pride is a killer lol

YDI. If you can't afford to tip, then you can't afford to eat at the restaurant.

If you would've read their update... Op did have enough money to eat and to ride the bus. But they forgot their bus card at home so that's why they didn't have enough.

If you can't afford bus fare without begging then perhaps you can't afford to be eating out at a resturant.

Here's a tip: if you can't afford to tip, don't go out to eat asshole.
