Today, I had to go to a big dinner with my insane relatives. Highlights of conversation included my sister telling us about the "country of Iowa", my dad accusing me of faking my chronic fatigue syndrome, and my grandpa claiming that Nelson Mandela is the Antichrist. FML

Today, my family’s usual Sunday dinner turned into a shouting match over politics. My uncle called me a “brainwashed socialist,” my cousin accused me of being a “capitalist pig,” and my grandma just sat there eating pie, which made me want to call her a "fence-sitting centrist", which is when I realized that maybe we shouldn't ever talk about politics again. I read it and thought, "Please don't let this be in the US..." Pleasantly surprised.

In the country of Iowa, Nelson Mandela is the antichrist

Sounds like you have an...interesting family. I definitely sympathize on the chronic fatigue front. My brother didn't even believe it was a real thing when I told him

Nelson Mandela being Antichrist: crazy. You faking your thingy: semi-crazy. Country of Iowa: that's just stupid. Stop her before she breeds.

That conversation seems very sane compared to the ones that take place in my family. I know this is quite rare these days, but I'm really close to my parents, grandparents, cousins, etc. and we're good friends. We're all crazy, and that's what keeps us together. You should be thankful your family even sits down together and talks. It could be a lot worse.

I have chronic fatigue syndrome too. It sucks so much. Im sorry. I've had it for 10 months.

I see you have a .... mmm very peculiar family.

I'm sorry your dad thinks you're faking your M.E (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, we call it M.E here in the UK). I've had it for 5 years and some people just never believe you, which is rubbish.
