Today, I had to go to the hospital to get blood taken. The nurse mentioned how pronounced and easy to see my veins are. I guess that explains why she missed five times in a row. I'm surprised my arm doesn't look like a heroin addict's right now. FML

I'm needle phobic. If they don't hit the vein on the first try I demand a different nurse.

I'm like you. I have a huge vein in my left hand, but it rolls and dodges the needles. My worst one was when it took them 6 tries to get the IV in.

hate to say this, but rolling veins is a myth, what happens is that whoever is drawing your blood isnt anchored down and holding the skin and veins well. I've drawn on a lot of people (specifically guys) who have a perfect vein but I can miss if I dont hold it down. its a technique thing, they're doing it wrong

I've been told that I have tiny veins. My record was 18 pricks on one arm and 9 on the other. Good thing I don't mind needles at all.

"18 pricks on one arm and 9 on the other." That sounds like a party. :-)

I believe she isn't completely experienced yet

I go through the sand thing almost every time. One time it took 4 people trying both arms to get the vein. I think some nurses are afraid of veins and blood

If a nurse is afraid of veins and blood he/she shouldn't be a nurse at all.

Once had a nurse bend a needle in my arm to get blood. It sucks

This literally happened to me last week, and I hate needles. After the second try I just asked for a different nurse.

Hah when I had my surgery... The had to draw blood from three different places in my hands and arms. Let's just say they got blood 1 out of every 4 tries.

You've not seen a heroin addict then, pin pricks are not the same as the tracks an addict gets.

Hell, one time I actually asked a junkie which of his veins would hold up the best. I figured, he should know, right?

I've seen an addict insert his own needles on a ward because both him and the staff knew he would be the best person for the job
