You'd probably feel better if you took a shower and went outside.

Look at it this way, could have been something MUCH worse!

I actually don't think being either homesick or depressed are causes of finding Oreo crumbs in your belly button.

Exactly! That's because OP meant that she's home sick, as in stuck at home with an illness.

For everyone saying they don't get the connection, I think what OP means is that she's been so depressed that she's been eating Oreos, and today she found crumbs in her belly button as a result. Great, even after all that, I'm craving Oreos...

For anyone saying that OP is disgusting and should get out side, go do something, take care of your personal hygiene and any other crap like that, just stop. If OP has depression and a severe enough depression that they are sitting at home eating away their feelings then getting out and doing something will not help. Depression isn't just laziness or boredom, it's a mental illness and a lot of people who are depressed don't feel comfortable doing a lot of things and don't see the point taking much care of themselves because a lot of the time they think no one cares anyway. I know all depression sufferers are different but what I've said is from personal experience. The last thing on someone's mind when they are depressed is "oh I'm gonna jump in the shower, go outside, soak up some sunshine and have a jolly day". It does not work like that! If OP doesn't really have depression and just feels upset because of being home sick or other reasons then of course they should try and get out and do something but it's really not that simple if someone is actually really depressed.

FINALLY, someone who gets it! 99% of the posters on this FML have no idea what it's like to suffer from depression, and they think they know just how to cure it. There's a BIG difference between depression and feeling bummed out about something. It's not just a case of the blues! Saying stuff like "you don't have a reason to be depressed" or "take a shower and get some sunshine"... that ISN'T HELPING. If you know nothing about depression, it's best to keep your mouth shut. Telling someone that it could be worse, or that it's their fault for being depressed... they can help their disease as much as you can help being 6 feet tall or having blue eyes. OP, I don't know if you will come back and read these comments. But if you do, read this: You are not alone. You are not crazy. You can survive this. We are not on this earth to see through one another, but to see one another through. Depression treats every sufferer differently, so I don't know how you are feeling, but I do know that there is hope.

Exactly! Depression isn't just simply being bored and bummed out. People with depression don't feel like doing anything. When I was going through my extremely bad stages of depression I would barely look after myself and as gross as it is to some people, that included my personal hygiene. I wouldn't leave the house, barely left my room. So for anyone saying "have a shower and go do something" no, it really isn't that simple.

Thank-you #54, I was getting really frustrated with everybody on here saying that op needs to just jump in the shower and go outside! I haven't personally suffered from depression, but my Dad did, and it hurts everyone. Not just the person who is suffering, but the rest of their family as well. I know that I didn't really undrrstand at the time, why my Dad didn't want to do anything, but now that I'm older, I get it. It's hard to watch someone you love going through that. Depression is a difficult illness to deal with, for everyone involved, but it can be beat! Keep your head up OP and when you are physically well enough (if I'm reading the home, sick part correctly), seek help. You are not alone!

And if you're depressed, one of the classic symptoms is not being able to enjoy the things that used to make you happy. Even if you really like something, when you're depressed it can just fail to bring you any kind of joy or happiness. You might love horses, but once you're depressed you could ride for hours and just be sore and tired and then wonder what's wrong with yourself. Depression. It sucks rocks.

Seriously. You always find out who the ones who love to hear themselves talk are when the subject of depression comes to the table.

and how exactly did you know they were Oreo crumbs.......?

Being sick can be a side effect of depression. Take a shower then call up some friends to hang out, fun is the best cure for depression, and probably will fix your cold too. Good luck op

Fun is not the best cure for depression. Professional medical help is.

Fun is the best cure for boredom. Fun will not help depression because most people who are depressed wont be able to find fun and enjoyment from anything

Going out and having a good time seems like a the perfect cure, and friends of a depressed person may say "See? You're smiling!" But it only masks the underlying causes. And from experience, I know that depression can be hidden from friends to give the illusion of "feeling better".

It depends on the cause of the depression, if it's a chemical imbalance then they need professional help. if it's event caused like a death, love loss, ect then fun works. op didn't clarify why they are depressed so I guessed it's the latter.

When I go out and have fun, it helps my depression. It's a struggle when you're alone. I've had it severely since I was little, but stopped with the medication. So sometimes, the more you want it, and the more you try, the more likely you are to feel happy at intervals. I hate saying it, the issue isn't trivial, but mind over matter.

of your sick my are you eating junk food? Eat something healthy and maybe you will feel better. let just hope you dont find chicken noodle soup in your belly button
