Some people do choose to be gay. The world is not black and white. Like some people 'born' gay could choose to be straight. Sometimes sexual orientation has nothing to do with how they're born, but how they're raised in society. Chances are, if you're 'born' gay to a redneck conservative of a father, he'll beat it out of you - OR - you'll grow up with a role model that loves women and beer and quite possibly follow along those footsteps. Psychology is a very grey science, so be careful with how you go about preaching it. (See what I did thar?)

#65, that's the whole nature vs nurture argument coming into play. It's a lose-lose situation no matter what side you argue for. Plenty of gays in the past, and probably still will in the future will hide their true feelings by dating the opposite sex and whatnot out of fear of discrimination, but they will still be attracted to the same sex. It doesn't matter if their parents "beat" it out of them, "church" it out of them, or accept it, it is nearly impossible to change who someone is, to that extent. Even if they look up to their same-gender, straight parent, they probably will not follow in the exact footsteps and be gay. That being said, sure there are people who "choose" to be gay, but those people are only doing it because they think it makes them look "cool" but "vulnerable" (for lack of better words). But anyways, like you said, psychology is a grey area. =)

I'm going to have to disagree with you, #57. It's not that they choose to be gay, but I think that during their upbringing, certain situations and experiences determine their sexual orientation, not that they're born like that. And #55, you're an asshole.

I didn't allow myself to elaborate on my post enough (my bad, I didn't think my post through), but I will say that my personal belief is that whether or not you are gay/lesbian/straight is all determined by a series of biological, environmental, and cognitive factors, so everything plays a small role in it.
