Op just worded this wrong. You can't get 3rd degree burns from a pan that isn't hot. You can however, get 3rd degree burns from a pan that you simply THINK isn't hot.
I work in a kitchen, use a dry towel to pick up the handle... completely dry towel! or you will have a pan handle burned into your hand.
So somehow the handle got upwards of 600 degrees without the pan getting hot at all?!!? YDI it OP for not knowing how to use a pan.
Well, okay, OP could have avoided this. But I hardly think that he deserves so much pain just because they were careless. However, a third-degree burn burns away the nerves beneath the skin (I can vaguely remember learning this a couple of years ago at guides), so they're not meant to hurt. Is it the area AROUND the skin that hurts with a third degree burn? Anyway, I hope that you get well soon, OP!
Cooking common sense. Sorry OP but YDI, get better pans with handles that don't heat up if you're still dumb enough to blindly grab something sitting over an open heat source.
well.... there is a first for everything, hmm?
Except this fml has been on here at least 2x lol
Try using a towel next time .?

Looks like that pan was too hot to handle!
Sounds like your cooking didn't exactly pan out.
