I learned living with my mom to always check the oven before I turn it on. She always loved to put the pots and pans in there to store them. There are NEVER enough places to put pans a 350 degrees
She obviously doesnt think you can cook...
So smart
i dont get it, someone please reply?
the candy was in the oven... imagine candy at 350 degrees
Your mom sounds stupid, no offense. Why would she hide candy in the oven? Especially if its in its wrapper/in a bag; it could catch on fire.
At least you are making cookies so I guess the cookies are a plus!!
Looking through the comments, I had no idea so many people stored stuff in their ovens. It just strikes me as a monumentally stupid thing to do. I'd corner off a section of my floor and stack pots there before I'd ever store them in my oven. Goddamn fire hazard.
it doesnt work all the time. my mother has a very tiny kitchen, its crowded if two people stand there, so you cant exactly cordon off a section of the floor. if you keep pots and pans there, its not dangerous. paper/plastic/electrical wires can catch fire, metal doesnt. plus her oven is gas, not electric, and we keep the line off when we arent using it.
Obviously metal doesn't catch fire at oven temperatures (atleast not the type of metal your pans are made out of, unless you're like storing magnesium in your oven), but you can create a spark by exciting the electrons in the metal and potentially create an explosion, especially if you have a gas oven. SO SO DANGEROUS. Just because it's not made of paper doesn't mean it's not a fire hazard. Do you put metal in your microwave when you use it? No, no you don't.
Microwaves work on a different principle than gas ovens (Why do you think its called a "microwave"?), which is why you can put metal in an oven (baking trays) and not in a microwave. Plus, the melting point of aluminium is over 1000 degrees, baking temperatures are way lower than that. Simple physics really.
And that is why you always check the oven before heating
@33- After what Molly Brown did looking in the oven should be a lesson learned! Did everyone already forget that line in Titanic? I must be getting old.
