Today, I left a note on the kitchen table saying to leave the door unlocked because I lost my key. I come home to find our house ransacked and robbed. Minutes later, I found my key. In my pocket. FML

This is why I keep my keys together. I usually put them on the belt loop of my pants so that if I don't jingle, then there's something wrong. I live in a moderately nice looking neighborhood, and I know that crime rates are lower here than in Richmond, but houses still get robbed. So I lock the door every day. Turns out, there's new "gangs" running around there because cops are never around my neighborhood anymore. It's like their own little playground. Look everywhere for your key if you think you've lost it. Pat your pockets. If you can't find it, and you have a fence to the back yard, lock the front door and climb the fence. I've had to do that on several occasions (Even when I've left my keys inside. Can't go anywhere without the car keys too!). It's a thought.

I guess it may depend in the kind of area you live in but leaving the door unlocked would never be an option for me. You always had the chance to wait till someone got home OP so they could open the door for you.

We all have moments where we misplace important things and have bad things happen, no matter how responsible you are. People need to stop acting like they are perfect and saying this person deserves it.

Hate to be that person, but you technically weren't robbed...
