OP here, wow I can't believe this actually got posted. I want to say thank you for the kind words, it was deffinatly nerve racking. To clear some things up, no we did not call the cops. The reason is once I heard the phone go off I woke up my mom and she turned on all the outside lights scaring whoever it was off. (I could tell because their phone went off again but that time the sound was farther away) Also I could tell it was a cell phone from how close it was and ring tones are easy to recognize. For the people saying it could be someone passing through, I highly doubt it since my back yard is fenced and my neighbors are not close together at all. However we are thinking it might be just some teenagers, since when housing construction was going on across the road from us some teens snuck into the unfinished houses, so it could be just them. Thankfully though my parents lock up the gates to the back yard and have a motion sensor camera set up that sends a message to your phone when triggered. We also own 3 dogs, one of which is a great dane. He's a big baby but his bark sure is scary. We hope the person doesn't come back again, if they do we will be calling the cops. There has only ever been one break in the neighborhood and we hope to keep it that way.

Most likely either birds or some children/wayward partygoers. Many bird species can easily learn to mimic phones. A sterling near my house learned neighbour's car alarm...
Call the mounties up and have them search your property and around your property for anything suspicious.
Your "country" is Canada, Alberta to be exact it tells you at the bottom.

In my experience it is always worth calling the police in situations like this. They won't be mad - trust me. Stay safe, OP.
Please call the cops, it could be serious.
they cooould still be watching you with their phone silenced... food for thought
Motion sensors will still catch the guy, even if his phone is silenced
Motion sensors don't mean anything. You can activate them all day long - it's a deterrent but doesn't stop anyone.
#66. they live in canada. we can't just openly shoot people when they come on our property. I mean like pellet yes. and everything else. but a gun you'd need a licence for you can't. you'd be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. and if they die. 1st degree murder. or if you're lucky. manslaughter
This sounds crazy but it may actually have been a bird. Birds hear cell phone ringtones and can copy them exactly YouTube it if you don't believe me. It's crazy but that might help you sleep better at night
I've only heard of some tropical birds doing this. I highly doubt there's a bird like that in rural Canada rather than someone with a cell phone outside.
It's fairly easy to fake a YouTube video.
actually crows do this. along with mockingjays and ravens.
A bird at 2am? Imitating cellphone ring tones at 2am?
There are species of birds that really can mimic all that stuff. The most fascinating one is the lyrebird. I'm sure some of the youtube videos of birds mimicking stuff, but the lyrebird has been known to mimic camera sounds, logging equipment, etc.
A mocking jay? Like from hunger games?

That would make me shat myself
That's incredible. Should have grabbed a weapon and wandered out there.
