Today, my girlfriend of six months dumped me over the phone. I'm in the military and recently had to move away to another fort. We'd agreed that we would try to make long distance work. I'd even offered to buy a plane ticket to come see her each weekend. I've been gone less than two weeks. FML

Today, my girlfriend of three years broke up with me because I'm in the military and I'm gone too much. The reason I enlisted in the first place is because we agreed that the money and benefits I would earn would help us be able to start a family in the future. FML

Thank you to all of you military girlfriends who are staying faithful. My boyfriend tells me all the time how much it means to the guys who know that their girls are staying true to them!! #14---I know what you mean.. i did the same thing last night! I keep my phone on LOUD so if he calls then i can wake up to talk to him.. and OP.. that sucks.. but #24 is right.. there isn't really a way to compete with a marine..

maybe she's in love with him it's not like she going to break up with him becuase he decides to serve are country. I don't know what your situation was like but if you to lived in diffent cities becuase of YOUR OWN CHOICE isn't the same thing. I'm not saying YDI or anything but I'm saying it's not the same thing to have a boyfriend in the military and have a boyfriend that chooses to live a city apart from his girlfriend.

I'm a marine sister and armygirlfriend needs to get her head out of her ass. just because you are DATING a military man, doesn't mean your not a civilian too. and for all those people who are just into the man for the uniform, that's a load of bullshit. you need to grow up and step up. if you can't love the man for him, don't love him for the uniform, it is most likely to go away quick. to be honest, I fell in love with my military man before I even knew he was thiking about the military. I my brothers wife was the same way. if you are loving a man for his uniform, you have some serious issues.
