Today, I overcame my stage fright and got up in front of a café audience with my acoustic guitar to sing a few of my songs. Some asshat kept yelling stuff like "NEEDS MORE COWBELL!" and "FREEBIRD!", which made me lose my nerve and flee. FML

Ok first don't let it bother you and second make sure you get back and do it again grand tune out all but what you are playing and singing. I did the same thing years ago and although I was quite good at vocals and playing my acoustic guitar, when I played and same thing happened to me I put the guitar up and now only sing along with radios or concerts. I had an agent that had given me his card and said to call him and set up some studio time to record a demo but I never did and always wish I wouldn't have let some jerk stop me like that. Best of luck. And would really like to hear what happens.

Your reply should have been, "You need a big cup of STFU !"

Oh my gosh I'm sorry,I know how you feel.I really want to be an actor and so many people tell me I am good at it,but I just can't do it in front of people. No matter how hard I try I just can't.At least you tried.People can be jerks sometimes, just try again another time.It will turn out better!

There are always assholes. However, if he was the only one doing it, you probably sounded a lot better than you thought! Kudos for getting up there in the first place though! It takes a lot of nerve to get up there and I'm sure the next time you'll be doing even better than this time! Keep your head up! :)

I'm sorry if this sounds rude but how are you just going to run off stage? Last time I saw someone do that was at my elementary school talent show. If performing is what you like doing, one random guy shouldn't stop you from doing it.

Severe stage fright is a thing.

At least you can play guitar and he probably can't.

He's clearly just a loser who'd never be brave enough to get up and do what you did. Try to ignore him OP, people like that only want to drag you down to their level.
