#131 this is true... I'm just more concerned about his/her lack of attention. Seriously, what if OP hit a kid and not a kitten and didn't realize until after the kid had been run over TWICE? If you're going to drive, you need to be able to be aware of what runs the **** in front of your car, regardless of whether or not you can avoid hitting it.
KIds usually stand upright and can be seen over the bumper and in time for you to throw on the breaks. A kitten is small and usually cannot be seen over the bumper or until it is too late. A kid would also have a better chance of surviving.
People, seriously. The OP thought it was a squirrel. If you thought it was a squirrel, would you bother getting out and looking to see if it was still alive? Didn't think so. I own two cats myself and would be devastated if they got run over, but I would rather their end was quick and painless rather than to sit there and watch them suffer. You did the right thing. If they are really young kids, just go get them another kitten. it won't necessarily replace the one they ran over but it shows that you are sorry and they'll probably forget about it in a week anyway.
and #132, you're comparing apples to oranges. A kid is considerably bigger than a cat and I doubt that OP could have ran over a kid twice. Significantly bigger speed bump.
Dude why do people keep saying this is hilarious!? Since when is it funny to accidentally hit a kitten!? UNfortunately #131 is right... Its more of a... crush, than a hit, for a kitten, since they're so small. Most cats wouldn't survive either. But still. Its really not funny.
i guarantee at least 1 of the people saying you're evil eats meat :) and they'd REALLY be upset when they found out what they do to THOSE animals... you probably should've checked because you might've only run over its leg, but your intentions were good. unfortunate situation overall...
How about you ******* pay attention where you're driving you stupid ****. FYL because your irresponsibility killed a beloved family pet? I hope you die.
I agree with 132. You need to be aware, and you can often avoid hitting an animal by not speeding and by watching what you are doing. If you hit a kid and thought it was a opossum, would you have done the same thing? I understand being humane, but think about those kids. It's F Their Life. I have been in that situation and it still traumatizes me. It's not them being irresponsible, either. Sometimes, the animal manages to get out, and, if they saw the whole thing, chances are that they were trying to get the animal before it got hit. I guess my problem is that you don't say how fast you were going because, in my experience, people are generally speeding when they are unable to avoid hitting an animal. That, or they think the animal doesn't matter and don't even try to avoid hitting it.
