Today, I ran over a squirrel. I saw it twitching, so I backed over it to end its suffering. It wasn't a squirrel; it was a kitten. The children it belonged to watched as I ran over their kitten. Twice. FML

you did the right thing. even though the kids are ****** up it's better to not let the kitten suffer. RIP KITTY!

I thought I saw a squirrel. So I ran over it. Turns out it was a cat and the owners saw me do it. Bonus points! Douchebag.

I agree that you should have checked first, even if it was a squirrel, however I do understand that accidents happen. That poor kitten! And those poor children! My advice to you, to minimize psychological damage to the kids, as well as your chances of your ass getting sued, is to buy them another kitten, including shots or spaying and whatever else they put into the first, or better yet, buy em two.

People who keep saying animals are just as important as humans irritate me. It's great if you like animals. I do too. But if there's a cat or a child in a burning building, you can only save one, and you choose the cat, you should be banished from the human race. It's just not right. I have a cat. I love her to death, but if it was the cat or my mom, sorry Luna, Mom wins.

#122 the answer to your question would be YES.

#164- well so. animals and humans were both put onto this earth. soo that makes them just as equal. oh and idc if that irritates you. your just inconsiderate to think otherwise then the truth.. so yeah.. oH and what if you were the cat(luna) and your trusted owner chose your mom. that would be hurtful. but iagree that you would chose your mother.. only cause shes the one that gave birth to me. thats it. EVERYONE IS EQUAL.. no matter what you say!.

who are you to ultimately decide the fate of a kitten?

And this is why every cat I ever own will be indoor only.

Cats are not meant to be inside their whole lives. They love going outside more than anything, they can find their own places to hang out and they can bond with neighbour cats. I live between an A road (main roads in Scotland) and the busy main road of my town, I've had six cats. Given normal circumstances they understand cars will squish them. Only one was hit by a car, was it the drivers fault? No. The poor woman was in hysterics, she ran to the nearest house and tried to get them to call the vets, but it was too late. Was it the cats fault? No. She was well experienced with the road and had been safe for years. Was it the fault of the jackass who set off fireworks on October 30th without warning their neighbours so they could keep their pets in? Without a doubt. She was scared shitless of fireworks, most animals are. She ran straight into the car. So, lesson of the day, DON'T SET OFF FIREWORKS ON DAYS THAT ARE NOT HOLIDAYS WITHOUT WARNING PEOPLE. But my second lesson of the day is if you de claw your cat because you want to keep it inside, well i hope someone cuts YOUR fingers off, see how you like it.

I think you went off on some ridiculous tangents there.

not really. 1. cats belong outdoors 2.cats are safe outdoors exept in very very exeptional circumstances 3. don't de claw your cat. Claws aren't like fingernails, they're more like fingers. De clawing is therefore pretty damn evil.

I keep my cat indoors. 1. She loves it. 2. I ensure I, or another family member take her outside at least once every two days supervised. 3. Also, by doing this I am saving native wildlife. 4. The last time my mum took my cat downstairs, the ginger tom next door attacked, chased and bit her foot. It cost over $150 for the bills. 5. I live next to two main roads (either side of the house). I appreciate my cat and make sure she gets enough love/attention and when I move to my own place I am getting her another kitten/cat friend. Cats may be built for outdoors, but my cat is a ragdoll. When attacked by other animals she does not attack as well as other cats can. Not saying she can't attack them, but she's not as well equiped for it. Do not say I'm a 'horrible person' because I keep my cat inside, sometimes it's best that they do. I'd rather my cat be safe than run over/hurt or killed by other things. So shut up about the way people keep their pets.

166 - Even if it wasn't my mother; if it was my sister, my child, my friend, or someone I didn't even know, I'd still save them over my cat. Perhaps that makes me a bad pet owner, I don't know. But the person is someone's child or someone's parent, even if they're not mine. I'd feel awful for not saving my cat, but I couldn't live with myself if I let a person die whom I could have saved. It's fine that we don't see eye to eye on this, I'm just respectfully disagreeing.

WOOOW. OP, def fyl. I feel sorry for you. and the kids. and the cat too.. as for the ppl that hate this guy/girl, wtf? The kitten was crushed when it was run over! You can't HIT a kitten. Maybe, OP should have checked to make sure it was for sure dying, but his/her intentions were good. so stfu. Plus, it was a frickin accident. It's not like OP said I went out of my way to hit this "squirrel." so shut up about him/her being a better driver. stop assuming he did something wrong, you assholes. And humans are above animals, sorry. I love animals too..but I'm pretty sure people trump them. Wow. 138 is right about the meat eating thing. lmao. ppl grow up.
