Depending on where ur from OP the law says he has to pay u child support until ur child turns 18 or older (depends where ur from) so u could take him to court if u wanted to (my opinion and mine alone take it or leave it)
Not so easy, even with a court order, to collect child support. I have seen appriox $500 in 6 years. Good luck with that.
Sadly that is a long process and it's difficult for the mother. Kids are expensive - health care, school, clothes, food, the list goes on. I have a friend who is struggling through that and the deadbeat dad keeps rescheduling court dates, elongating the process. It's a very stressful situation.
I'm assuming you didn't go through the courts and just made a "verbal agreement" with your ex. File for child support through the court (it's free for the one who files in some states), that way he has to pay according to how much he makes/your child needs/what you make/etc. For most states, if he doesn't pay up after a certain amount owed is reached, the state will automatically take his tax return... If needed they will start taking it out of his paychecks. They do it for me (I'm in PA). Check what your state does in regards to this matter. He created this life with you and that child is as much of his responsibility as it is yours.
Although in this case the system should def bring it to this lousy father, in many cases they order support but don't enforce it very well. In my experience I've seen many flaws in the system across the board, for good fathers and good mothers. You get the amount of justice that you can afford, aka the lawyer you can pay for. Beyond that they dont fight very hard for you. Took me over a year to get the court to enforce their dna testing order on my ex for my daughter, despite her skipping court repeatidly. The only reason they ever got the test done is she finally brought our child in herself....cause she wanted child support now go figure. kept me from my daughter a year but now I get to pay her back support for that time. The courts havent a clue what justice is or how to enforce it.
I do agree with you on that. There are cases and in some states where they really don't care all that much to enforce it like they should. That sucks you had to go through that! It's a shame when the father actually wants to take part in their child's life and ends up getting the short end of the stick. There will always be "bad cases" unfortunately, but I think a lot of the larger more populated states tend to enforce it more than others.
time for a lawyer, they take child support out of paychecks now, if he doesn't pay he goes to jail. nice to see how much he cares about his children... douche!
All my exes live in Texas, that's why I hung myself in Tennessee.
Yay court system, works wonders!
Don't start that gender dissing crap just because of 1 case of a poor father. Lots of fathers step up to the plate all the time and get no recognition at all, and don't expect it. Lots of mothers use their children as pawns to use or hurt the fathers and are never brought to justice. There are bad mothers and bad fathers, bad women and bad men. I am one of those good fathers that deals with a mom who tries to keep me away and use me for money, but I certainly don't assume all women are vindictive and evil. Stop being so narrow minded and stereotyping all men together cause its not fair nor accurate.
