Honestly? That was probably a joke, especially as he probably had his gloves on anyway, and he would probably lose his job if that was true. And actually, a joke that serves you well. I don't imagine going to an appointment with a dentist without brushing my teeth. That's disgusting, really. I think for somebody who has to work in your mouth, see it closely, smell your breath, that may be just as disgusting as not washing your hands after peeing and then touching other people. Plus, he is probably fed up with people who are not brushing their teeth before the appointment.
