Today, I saw a lady who had fainted. I ran over to help, only to find out that she was unstable and had a knife in her hand. She was pointing it at me, and growled threateningly every time I tried to move away. It took the cops an hour to defuse the situation. FML

This is quite possibly the most twisted FML I've seen for a long time.

There are too many crazy people around, but props to you for trying to help.

This is why I'm hesitant to be a good Samaritan.

34: Morons are more than capable of becoming cops (usually not respectable ones). The reason he isn't a cop is because he doesn't want to or has no self control as indicated by his comment

I speak from experience. FatBuoy is correct.

Major props for keeping your cool, OP -- and your life. Blades are wicked scary (I know, been there), and you were essentially her hostage for that hour. Please contact your doctor if you aren't feeling OK. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is treated best when treated early; there's medication for it, now. Hope you are OK soon. Best of luck.

The cops could have diffused the situation much more quickly if they would have shot the assailant... the crazy lady may kill the next good Samaritan.

For those saying the OP should have run, What if the crazy lady is quite athletic looking (maybe with super human speed)? or if the OP is out of shape and cannot run fast? We don't know the situation and there's a few where running could be fatal.
