Today, I showed my daughter video footage from a security camera that showed her using her employee key to enter the store I own, disarming the alarm, and stealing several very valuable items. Her defense? That someone had "photoshopped" the video. We'll see how that goes down in court. FML

Having to take your own child to court can't be easy, so I'm sorry it's reached this point, OP. Hopefully everything will work itself out, and you and your daughter can make amends. Definitely change the alarm code though.

While editing vids is possible, I doubt its fake. Sorry OP.

Taking your own daughter to court? Sounds like someone raised her wrong to begin with. YDI

In no way does this judge the parenting. This is just the daughter thinking she could get away with it.

@57 Parents aren't always the reason behind destructive behavior. My brother manages a very successful welding factory and I'm working on a clerical degree. My sister, on the other hand, is a heavy drug user (pot, meth, prescription pills). We all grew up in the same house and got the same treatment

Why would you take your child to court? Bad parenting

Why should she get a free pass just because she is OP's daughter? A thief is a thief, and she deserves to be punished.

Why are people blaming OP for taking his daughter to court. If my daughter stole hundreds or even thousands of dollars from me, I would too. Just because she is OP's daughter, doesn't mean she should get a free pass. She is still a criminal and deserves to be punished.

To everyone blaming the OP for doing this: think rationally for a second. You could say that this is bad parenting for not just disciplining his daughter himself, OR you could introduce her to what really happens in the real world. The OP's daughter didn't simply steal money from the OP, she stole several valuable items from the OP's place of work. Standard parenting methods can only go so far. If your child is actually outright committing crimes (especially if they're in their late teens or is an adult, considering that the OP's daughter is working for him), sometimes a little "shock therapy" is necessary.

Sounds like a "special kind of stupid" to me. Sorry you have to take a family member to court, yet it will be the only way you can get your $ for what she stole & the only way she will learn not to steal, IMO

What a crying shame your daughter thought this was ok.. Feel sorry for all parties involved :(

I'm so sorry you had to go to this point op, if she's a minor, you should look into the scared straight program to help out

I mean if it's THAT severe or if this was done more than once then i'll agree with your methods, but if this was only done once or if she's not 18 then court sounds extreme.

Photoshop is the wrong software for that it's in the name.
