Today, I started my first training day using an MRI machine and completely forgot to remove my nipple piercings before I went in. I've never experienced a pain so vile and lingering in my life. FML

Aaaaand today I learned that if I take a MRI I have to remember to take out my nipple piercings.

Why do people get their nipples pierced??? I'm not against it or anything but It just seems like it'd hurt more than it's worth.

I don't even have boobs and my boobs hurt from reading this

Why the hell do you have a nipple piercing?

There's a lot of nipple ring enthusiasts around here. It's a sore subject... ... ... :D

This is why we wear surgical steel grade body jewelry instead of cheap stuff ??

Don't tell me you're another one that thinks steel isn't magnetic? All steel is magnetic...

Just be happy you didn't have a Prince Albert piercing ...

I'm really sorry I do believe you deserve this.. When working with these machines it's really important you remember things like this, how dangerous could it be for a patient or someone else if you forget.. It's safety and common sense really

I've had 3 x-rays/MRI issues, and every time NO ONE asked me about piercings or jewelry. I'm so glad I remembered to take them out myself seconds before each procedure otherwise I would have had plenty of new burns and scars. The doc or nurses NEED to ask patients about this every time! I've seen what it can do to people. I hope you heal up quickly! Good luck on your training! Now you'll have a good story and lesson for when you get to be the trainer.

Piercings should be surgical stainless steel... Which is non-ferrous. I.e. No iron. I.e. Non-magnetic. Same reason they don't set off the metal detector at the airport.

That sounds odd. Stainless steel is usually steel and nickel. Not sure what the surgical part is. Suppose I could Google it.

Noooooo. I'm guessing you never sorted recycling when you were younger? You could use a magnet to tell whether a can was steel or not. That's how the big recycling plants separate the metals... Steel is most definitely magnetic. And ALL types of steel are ferrous. YDI.

Actually stainless steel (both common types) are almost always austenic - which is one of the major differences between hot pressed/cold rolled untreated steel and stainless. Stainless can become more ferritic as its welded or worked on. My guess: OP got ripped off and deserves and should seriously consider getting their money back
