Today, I started my new job as a teacher. Worried about how I looked, I asked a coworker if I looked okay. She said, "You look fine. Just like a normal high school kid." I spent the next half hour convincing her that I was not a student, but a teacher. FML

I'm a teacher, 25, and look about seventeen. It sucks. I sympathize.

YDI for trying to convince a coworker you were a teacher for a full half hour, when a quick flash of your school ID showing your status as a teacher would have cleared it up in 5 seconds. And since OP is from Colorado, USA, I assume she was assigned an ID. The combination of fear of pedophiles (or in this case, ephebophiles) and the large amount of money given to the educational system in America would practically guarantee there would be IDs.

At my high school we didn't have IDs until a few weeks after school started and they did our school pictures so she might not have it yet.

Ah hell. Mods, please delete this comment and the one above it, (#46).

It's probably just a blessing in disguise, meaning that you look so young that she couldn't believe you were a teacher. In some years, you'll be glad to look that young, we're not all that lucky. ;) Or, it might be that you're not dressed "teacher-appropriate", but considering she didn't say anything about the clothing being too revealing, it's probably okay. A youthful fashion sense is not a bad thing as long as it remains professional and correct.

you spent 30 Minutes Trying to convince some one.. you are a kid.

I don't see how looking young is an FML.. Isn't that a good thing?

Just take it as a compliment and go about your day OP :)

I go through this every year. I understand! Sucks, doesn't it?

She thinks u look younger than u are isnt that a compliment

I've said it once, but it bares repeating. It's one thing to be in your 30s and people say you look like you're in your young 20s. It's another thing entirely to be in your 20s and people think you're some punk teenager.

I'm a teacher who is often mistaken for a student as well, even though I am 28 years old. Take it as a compliment, I do. Hell, I still get carded occasionally! It may annoy you now, but you'll be grateful when you hit middle age and still look younger.
