I don't understand the overqualified thing... Shouldn't that be solved by a simple "With all due respect sir, I just need a job. Regardless of my qualifications I'd like a chance please?" Unless you're being unreasonable and demanding too much?
Gotta love the current economy!
You need to dumb up your application and resume to appear less qualified!
That's unfotunate buddy, I wish you the best.
It only took me 200, 196 overqualified speeches later, right there with you.
I find it very very strange that they would turn you down for being "over"qualified. That makes no sense. Either way you ARE qualified and would therefore be able to do the job better than someone underqualified. They are doing themselves out of competent employee and have no logical reason to do so.
its because if you are overqualified, you are more likely to quit the job when you find a better one
Wowzerz... Good luck next time!
Been there, done that....still doing it. FYL & FML too. Most employers these days seem to want immature young or cute looking eye candy to bring in more business rather than someone with REAL skills & wisdom. :( I was turned down for a sandwich delivery job on account of I needed a more "professional" looking beard (eg. Big side burns or a baby face with no facial hair & I'm 41 & have well trimmed facial hair, guess I looked too "normal" & not like a high school kid who just grows sparse patches of hair here and there on my face.)
Also, employers don't want to have to pay you more than min wage even though you deserve it, OR they're worried the company will give you the managerial position & demote them..just like WM, they want to keep their $60k-$160k jobs (doing next to nothing)so they can pay you hourly ($5.25-$7.25) to do nearly EVERYTHING.

Good luck with your next one, OP.
Well, that's what happens when you apply to McDonalds and Harvard.
