The first time is always the worst. The best thing to do is just relax. The more stressed you are, the harder it is to get it in correctly. And this may sound a little strange, but if it's difficult to get it in because it's dry, you may want to put a small amount of lube on the tampon just to make it easier. Let me clarify for those on the internet who enjoy taking things out of context: I'm not saying to ********** with it, but a little bit of lubrication will definitely help when it's too dry to feel comfortable. Hope this helps a little OP.

It hurts the first time - I'd have used and applicator one. Trust me, it will stop hurting after about 5 times, so the first pains are worth it :D And once you get it in the right place, it's much more comfortable and you feel more free.

Pads suck butt-hole in my opinion. I literally CRIED for hours when I first used a tampon but I got the hang of it and it's soo much better/cleaner. I feel your pain. This is the only time saying 'girl power' doesn't sound sexist and over-rated. ;)
