Today, I told my boyfriend his shirt and pants did not match and that he should change for dinner. All my belongings are now on the sidewalk. FML

looks like he thought your belongings didn't match his house

I always trust a girls sense of fashion. lol. They typically know what they are talking about.

Op, you probably said it like this, "Omg that doesn't match. You need to change!" The proper way to get your boyfriend out of clothes you don't like is to say, "Hey honey, let me get you out of those clothes. We have time before dinner for a quickie." Then start sexing, throw his shirt somewhere he won't find it quick enough then be like, "OMG we are running late because of your sexual prowess, here put this on and lets go." Everyone is a winner.

Or read "His Needs, Her Needs" by William F. Harley, Jr. where he talks about some spouses' needs for their significant others to look good. Which in that case OP was right and her boyfriend was wrong. Yay conflicting self help books. I think they sometimes confuse us even more.

he over reacted way too much it's a suggestion. he could have just said no I like these clothes or ok for you honey. he was an oversensitive jerk.

I think the boy has a right to decide how he is treated. If he likes what he wears and his girlfriend (constantly) harps on what he wears then he has a right to decide to be in a relationship with someone less shallow. It never said they were going to a nice dinner, just that his shirt and pants did not match. He might have been in a nice pair of slacks and a button down. The way she phrased it makes me think this matters to her and it does not to him. If this is an everyday issue he has the right to tell the girl to get the **** out. It sounds like it was his apartment and as such she should have been more respectful of her SO feelings.
