Today, I told my girlfriend of 2 years that I was sexually abused as a kid. She was only the third person I've told. She reacted by breaking up with me because I "might do something" to her kids. FML

Abuse is a horribly traumatic thing to endure at any point in your life. I'm sorry OP that you had to go through that. I hope the person that hurt you is rotting in jail or in hell. I have 0 tolerance for abusers. I hate people that make excuses for someone that's abusive. You shouldn't be able to walk this earth if you allow such evil to escape from your body! I have dealt with so many sex offenders and it makes me sick to think about the things these people would do. Your girlfriend is obviously being insensitive, but she may just be scared.

This makes as much sense as giving up Catholicism because the media has reported that some priest molested children. Perhaps I should raise my children Baptist, cause there's less media reports about them molesting children. And you Never hear a report that says "Some Atheist molested a child today".

I don't believe you should convert because of what the media says, the only reason media has more catholic priests molesting because there are more catholic priests and the media chooses to show that more. You know your religion, and molestation definitely isn't part of Catholicism. I don't really see your logic here. What you chose to believe shouldn't be affected my media. It's like me saying "Oh some people think Muslims are terrorists, even though I know islam does not promote violence but I'm going to convert despot my knowledge just because of a disgusting stereotype." It makes no sense.

I think she's narrow minded. I know a few a people who've been sexually abused as a child and seeing what they've gone through and how they react in certain situations,is mind changing. Your saying people are narrow minded because they're bashing on his gf? Well then you obviously have no idea what that does to a person. Anyone who's been through that,would never even want to think of putting anyone through that nor want to re-live thier past in the process of doing that to someone.. So yeah,she's the idiot.
