Today, I told my long-distance friend about the flooding in Florida due to the Supermoon. He's a Flat Earther and despite proof, denies the coincidence because he believes the moon and gravity aren't what we're taught. FML

What an idiot, if he was smart he would know the world is a cube.

It literally boggles my mind how folks can be this thick-headed. All the evidence, all the science--do they need to be strapped into a rocket and shot into space themselves?

Flat earth and no climate change...is he American? If he is I know who he voted for!

Interesting. What's his reasoning, and what's the mistake in his reasoning? Or are you just going on faith?

Interesting beliefs What about Santa Claus?

ydi for trying to have an informed conversation with a flat earther

that ain't your friend. don't surround yourself with idiots OP, it'll just bring you down in the long run. I know from experience

Greetings, OP here. Wasn't expecting these many replies. Yay! Yes he's a friend that I actually meet here on FML through the PM system. He's an interesting person and we often have super heated debates about everything from religion to science to conspiracy theories. Etc.... We don't agree on anything and drive each other crazy trying to change the other persons' world view. He does make valid points from time to time but damn! Occam's razor just doesn't seem to get through to him!

Conspiracies like we never landed on the Moon? Ugh! I watched it on television. I remember it interrupting Star Trek. It was very exciting when Buzz got in trouble with Tribbles. I choked on my taco.

Have you been through the evolution thing yet?

Many, many times. I have made her aware of soft tissue discoveries in fossils dated over a half billion years. She thinks it's possible. Hahahaha.

It's suck a shame that people ignore the Mountains of evidence that the Earth isn't flat

A 'supermoon' is just when the moon's perigee (point of closest approach) coincides with a full moon. Perigee happens once every 27 days (approximately). So this particular flood in Florida has nothing to do with it being a 'supermoon', this only means that the full moon looks a bit bigger than usual (about 15% bigger and 30% brighter). Coastal flooding is usually a result of high tides (which can occur literally any day of the year, but are at a maximum twice every 27 days orbital period) coinciding with storm surges (resulting from strong low pressure system and unfavourable winds). The highest of the high tides (leaving aside weather-related enhancements) occur when the Earth is at its perhelion (point of closest approach to the sun) around the 2nd of January. So yeah, not that. Media reports linking the two phenomona are complete Trump-level bullshit.
