you just increased my fear of hardcore denial when i break the news to my parents that i'm agnostic. thanks for that, OP. fyl.
My parents laughed and said it was just a phase. Now, seven years later, I get lots of dirty looks and rumors circulating at family reunions that I'm a devil-worshiper. My grandmother also cut me out of her will. Ah, well.
Tell them to look on the bright side: at least you're not atheist.
I'm 100% Athiest. Never have, never will believe in any religion.
There is no such thing as being agnostic. By saying you don't know, that means you are an atheist. Good luck.
that seems a bit harsh but you don't bite the hand that feeds you. you don't have to believe what they do but you should respect it, they are your parents and since you're jobless I assume you have been living off them.
From the information in the FML, it sounds like the only beliefs being disrespected were OP's. They probably didn't go to their parents and say "I don't believe in your religion 'cause it's stupid, and you shouldn't believe it either."
Bingo Pedantik. Once the shouting starts, there's very little difference between a fundamentalist Christian and a fundamentalist Atheist.
sweet so does that mean u want us to throw out the 10 commandments 2? which many of out modern laws are based on. Would to terribly mind it if I stole all ur stuff and killed you?
It doesn't take a bearded deity in the sky to come up with those laws. Just about every society and religion has agreed that it's wrong to kill, steal, etc. A lot of hatred and war has come out of religion as well. Unlike many religions would have you believe, without it we would not simply lose our 'moral fiber' and become uncivilized apes. In fact, throughout history it has actually worked to stifle human progression.
pendatik, spoken like a true sane person.
buddy buddy, youve got to make a stand and please dont tell me they made you follow scientology... tom cruise is a level 4 theden and can kill you with his mind.. says scientology
Hah! I totally moderated the last 3 FMLs.... Not important, but it made me smile. [= Yes, dear, FYL. The x is more of an FYL than anything else. Your other problems can go away. Ever seen Fatal Attraction? [x
Ever see a mirror? you look like a f***ing idiot.
...you're thinking of priests.
hey thats not cool guys! /:<
Although my comment was intended as a cheap shot, what Pedantik says is right. I'm personally not religious, but I generally respect those that are. I feel that religions in general though are often let down by the actions of the people that claim to represent them. In the specific case of the Catholic church sex scandals, the hypocrisy of the situation coupled with the wilful and reckless covering up of monstrous crimes means that what I said pales into insignificance. I'll gladly retract what I said and apologize, the moment it isn't actually true.
Does this still qualify as a scandal if its been going on, ..., oh ,..., FOREVER? Lets not pick on the Catholics either. Every major religion has had this (and other) problems. It's only scandalous when the media gets hold of it. Right now the media is looking at Catholics, but Protestants (all you non-catholic christian cults) shouldn't be pointing fingers either.
No, you're right, it's not really earth-shattering news, but with the Pope's visit to the UK this past week, it's been dragged up a lot recently. I completely agree that this problem and many others aren't limited to the Catholic church, but as this particular example related specifically to them, it seemed like the most logical one to refer to.
not true
Sounds like it was meant to be, like it or not.
learn to spell, dumbass
Can't blame her, she's blond
The OP told them because he didn't expect his PARENTS to throw him out of the house based on what he believed in.
look at the bright side you will get laid

I'm all for standing up for one's beliefs, but if you knew your parents were that strict on their own, you should have at least waited until you were financially stable to say anything.
I'm sorry op. stand up in what you believe no matter what. word of advice sleep with one eye open. lol good luck.
