Today, I told my parents that all I wanted for my 18th birthday was to go to a restaurant in NYC for a nice dinner. My parents said no, because it would cost too much money. I came home to see my parents had bought a huge TV for $800. We already have 3 televisions. FML

That's bull shit. Throw lasagna at them.

I'm gonna say FYL because I live in NJ and while it's hard to get to NY just for dinner, for a birthday that's a reasonable gift, so to say that's too expensive and then buy a brand new tv, that's just rude.

How on earth is this and FML?!?!?!!! F your parents' lives for having such a spoiled brat for a kid.

Yes, all she wanted was a dinner with her parents and instead of even trying to compromise, they refused. Yes OP must be so spoiled

FYL, Happy Birthday and welcome into the selfish world of adults!! I'm wondering if the OP tell her parents 'cause she usually do so every year or if they asked her for what she wanted and then denied it to her

she's being selfish because it's in new york a nice restaurant can easily hit 200 bucks for 3 people

i have 8 TVs. just saying. but 16 and 18 and 21 are the biggest birthdays, you should get more than that. but my parents wouldn't take me to a nice restaurant in NYC no matter what day it is.

The plasma TV will last a couple of years -- the fancy meal will be the shit you are flushing in 24 hours. Sounds like your parents are showing you how to spend money wisely. YDI for living in Jersey AND wanting to take your entertainment dollar out of state. Find a hoagie place and fuggedaboutit!

It's called that her parents are selfish. She wanted to be taken somewhere for a very important birthday, and dinner would probably cost a few hundred. That's incredibly selfish for them to buy themselves something even more expensive after telling their child that "it's too expensive" to go somewhere she wanted to. And what's so bad about living in Jersey? I live in Jersey. Well, not North Jersey but still.

I think the gas thing is a plus. It's cheaper, AND we don't have to even get out of our cars in bad weather just to pump gas! ....Though I agree with the Newark thing.

You deserved it because you used an apostrophe to pluralize.

If you're seriously complaining that you got a plasma TV for your birthday, you're a greedy *****.

She didn't get the TV, her parents bought it for themselves.

dude. come the **** on. plasma > dinner.

Nah, nice dinner > plasma TV Now if it were a nice LED or nice LCD TV, then it would be TV > dinner

You are stupid. You know nothing about TVs. Also LED TVs are the same as LCD TVs. Quote: "They are different things completely. They are different technologies. The 600Hz on Plasma is really more marketing to make it seem vastly better than LCD. But really the technology just works entirely differently. Plasma has a near instantaneous response time, like 0.001ms. LCD's are at best like 2.4ms (but most are like 5ms or 8ms). They use the refresh rate to try and mask the motion blur that comes because of the slow response time. It helps "draw" the image more often by interpolating frames and reducing blur. Plasma is flawless in motion playback. Its inherent to the technology. No extra features needed. Its better than LCD, even LED LCD (which from a motion standpoint is the same as CCFL LCD). The Plasma 480Hz or 600Hz sub-field motion drive claims to give Plasma this better image for moving images. But again, inherent to the technology its near instantaneous already. Its like saying a CRT/tube set is 600Hz. Its an attempt to help win over confused consumers. It does take them down the right path, as Plasma is better, but it doesn't 'draw' or interpolate images like an LCD does."

only a nerd with no life would actually make a long-ass comment like that.
