Today, I turned 18. My parents gave me a card that read "now that you're 18, it's time for some boozy fun... you can do all the things you did before but legally!" Taped to the inside was my fake id that I "lost" three months ago. FML

Today, I turned 17. My parents completely forgot it was my birthday, and when I reminded them, my dad thought it was my 18th. He was ecstatic and mentioned that I can "finally get the hell out." FML

Today, I got my fake ID and went out with the boys to dinner and the bars. One of my friends asked to see my ID. He noticed my birthday didn't make me over 21. I paid $170 for a fake ID with my real birthday. FML

Today, I went to a bar to celebrate my 26th birthday. I got ripped off by the bartender all night because she secretly gave me non-alcoholic versions of my drinks. Apparently I look like I'm 16, so she thought my ID was fake. Happy birthday to me. FML

Today, I got a change of ID. My old ID had its corner cut off and was given a temporary paper ID. I went to a bar in another town to have some drinks. Turns out I couldn't because they couldn't use my old ID or my temporary one to let me drink, even though I'm 22. I've been there before and I work at my town's liquor store. FML

I never understood why people couldn't just wait until 18 to drink/smoke/etc. It's not exactly like waiting until you're 65 to retire. =/

I don't feel too sorry for you, you didn't get in trouble, and I think a fake ID is a bit excessive anyway when the legal drinking age is 18. That's really not long to wait to be able to legally purchase alcohol.

Yeah, I don't get why it's so hard to wait until you're 21. (or whatever age it is in your country). Alcohol isn't all that special, imo. By the way, guys, the drinking age in America is 21 because Americans tend to be really, really stupid with their alcohol. The age for entering the military is most likely lower because people don't take that decision as lightly as they do getting completely wasted and then, I dunno, driving and killing innocents. (Also, I belive the judgement portion of the brain often doesn't develop fully until the early twenties? Not sure, it's just something I've heard before)
